End of the Year Band Concert...
Can you say, wow!?!?!? I'm so impressed with how far this group of kids has come over the past year. Really impressive. They had a professional sax player join them on stage, and just knocked our socks off. The band instructor said that most 6th grade bands make it through half the content that this year's 6th graders did. He was shocked by their dedication and growth as musicians. What an amazing way to wrap up the school year! (Yes, we are already signed up to play next year!)
Last Day of Pre School
That happened fast, I know! But, the last day of preschool came and went today, with lots of mamas wiping tears as they saw their 4 year olds in robes and mortar boards for the first time. The kids sang lots of songs, heard names called, watched diplomas being handed out, and listened to what the graduates wanted to be when they grew up -- which spanned from Police Officer and Fireman to Chef and Babysitter! One sweet soul simply said, "When I grow up, I want a job." Awesome!

State Science Olympiad! Wow!
Collaborative Presentations of Japanese Language, K-College, UNCCThe boys had the opportunity to present at the first Inaugural Japanese Language gathering in Charlotte this past weekend, performing with their class. It was incredible! With an opening by the Taiko Club, followed by a guest speech by the Consulate-General of the Japanese Consul in Atlanta, the day was a real treat.
The rest of the day included presentations by Kindergarten, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 8th Graders, as well as presentations by two high school students (all in Japanese!) and presentations by two UNCC Japanese studies students. Closing speech by Dr. Kato, Professor of the Department of Languages and Culture Studies at the University. How amazing to share a stage with this amazing group of people! |

The Preschool Spring Performance! The kids sang Take me out to the Ballgame, He's got the Whole World, Spring Song, and I'm a Cross n Crown Kid. Adorable! The performance was followed by dessert in the Fellowship Hall, an Art Show, and Raffle. Hard to believe Spring is already here and the school year is winding down.

Painting the Rock!
They do a really neat thing at the schools here. Each school has a boulder out front that can be painted to celebrate your child's birthday. Sitting at the school entrance, everyone gets to see as they come and go whose birthday it is and how old they are. (Nobody at this age seems to mind that part!) Today we went and painted the rock for Caiti's birthday. She chose the colors and as you can see, we had a great time with the day-glo colors she chose!

A Gracious Spirit is Contagious!
Caiti was so happy to participate in the United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation fundraiser for one of her classmates. So was the whole class -- and school for that matter. What started as an empty your couch cushions grassroots event became a full-fledged drive, with significant results. A reporter and photographer came to school to feature their generosity in the local paper!

Thanksgiving Dinner at Preschool
The preschoolers sang songs, "Hello, Mr. Turkey! How are you?" and produced a Thanksgiving skit. So much fun and so adorable.
November Starts With a Double-Header!
The All Star Chorus sang at the Family Dinner night tonight, to a rousing round of applause. Dressed in red, white and blue, they sang a quintet of Americana songs -- from 50 Nifty United States to Protect our Troops. Caiti sang middle center, and was so excited for her first performance. More to come at the holidays!
We then raced to the Middle School to see Tessa play at the band Informance. Over 100 kids played at this first performance, and it was tremendous. It was hard to imagine that these kids couldn't play a note just two months ago. They started by playing the first scale they learned... and ended with Jingle Bells. It was really terrific!

Donuts with Grandad
While Grandpa was here, he was able to enjoy donuts at the Donuts with Grandad event at school. It was so much fun! Little Miss was tickled pink and to hear Grandma tell it, Grandpa woke up at a quarter to 5 he was so excited. A day to remember, for sure.
Try-Outs!
Every year the elementary school hosts its Fall Jamboree, a large fundraiser that supports the school's activities that aren't budgeted for by the State. Part of the Jamboree is a talent show in which the kids get to show off their talents. Cool! Caiti and her two friends tried out this week for the Talent Show and are waiting for the email to tell us when she gets to take the stage at the big event. Here they are with their Hula Hoops -- ready to dance to "It's Always A Good Time"!
