Visiting with Great Grandma =)
Thank you Grandma for letting us visit you! We had so much fun making Divinity together, visiting, and meeting our cousins. While in Rock Island, Grandma sent us off to the Arsenal, John Deere Pavilion and Black Hawk State Park.
A Boat Tour of Chicago...
And we saw Northwestern University
Right on Lake Michigan with a beautiful view of downtown Chicago, Northwestern was a really neat campus. We walked through on a weekday getting a great taste of campus life here. Car said, "Now I can picture my future self here." Well, alright then!
A Very Full Day in the Windy City!
We took the Metra into Downtown Chicago this morning, commuting just like the locals, with our end terminus at the Field Museum. How amazing is that?!?!?! We saw Sue, Lucy, mummies, dinosaur skeletons and oh so much more. It was a fun, full day that flew by.
Following the Field Museum, we hitched a ride in a limo (oh, yes we did!) much to the kids delight... and boy did we make the most of it! This was followed up by authentic Chicago deep dish pizza at Giordano's. Mmmmmm.... We then took the short walk back to the Metra station for a short commute 'home'.
Downtown Naperville...so cute; so yummy
We went to Cookie Dough, a downtown Naperville store that sells ice cream with a scoop of cookie dough. Oh man was it good! It started to snow as we walked around this super cute downtown (you can see the riverwalk below) so we decided to head back and do what everyone does when it snows. Yep, go for a swim!
Go ChiSox!!!
We arrived in Chicago, ready to watch the Chicago White Sox to take on Cleveland in the final game of their series. The city was a little cold and foggy, but everyone was excited to see their first MLB game -- especially with Grandpa's favorite team! (Did you know he grew up listening to ChiSox games on the radio???) No sooner did we get settled in than they declared a rain delay...
Not to worry... the game started a short while later! Only to be delayed again due to rain. After the stops and starts, the White Sox got behind 0-1, tied the game with a home run, only to get behind again with a Cleveland score in the 9th….extra
innings? Nope, 2 run homer by Eaton! And that’s a game! Our
first MLB game was quite an adventure!
Notre Dame
As the kids get bigger, it's important that they start thinking about which University they want to attend. Making that idea more concrete, we've started visiting different schools, helping them get a feel for what they are like in person -- not just on paper (OK, on the Internet). One of America’s leading undergraduate teaching institutions, Notre Dame has been at the forefront in research and scholarship. The aerodynamics of glider flight, the transmission of wireless messages, and the formulae for synthetic rubber were pioneered at the University! Among other notable accolades, two alumni astronauts have served on three space shuttle missions the last four years.
A Day at the Columbus Zoo
We spent a gorgeous day today at the world renowned Columbus Zoo, made famous by Jack Hanna. We saw everything from polar bears to orangutans...snakes to the petting zoo. It was voted "do again" by everyone! We especially loved how close up we got to the brown bear who cozied right up to the glass and walking through the kangaroo exhibit, one of which had a joey in her pouch!
